"What's so all-fired important that you have to leave now?" The question turned her pretty face into a little girl pout.
He saw no harm in telling her. If she had been out and about this morning she would have heard the gossip anyway. It was causing as much talk as the storm brooding off the coast. "Pasquel Morgan shot and killed a Mexican kid last- night at Las Chinkas. I've got orders to take him to Port Isabel and book him."
Linda looked back at him, a look of disbelief etched into her face. "You've got to be kidding. Pasquel Morgan? He couldn't shoot anyone."
Bartholomew shook his head. "I wish I was, but there were several witnesses." He released her, kissed her playfully on the forehead and started for the door. She caught up with him halfway across the room, turned him around and kissed him, full and hard on the lips.
"Be careful," she said huskily. "I've just about got you trained. You're getting to be pretty good in the bedroom. Linda baby doesn't want to have to start over with somebody new."
